Join us on Wednesday 3 June for a small-group Study Club session with Dr Soo Hee Lim, focused on one of the most challenging aspects of clinical practice — decision-making.

Most clinical challenges aren’t solved by protocols alone. They arise in moments where the path forward is less clear: how to plan, what to prioritise, and whether to proceed at all.

This session is designed around those situations.

Through real case discussions, we will explore how clinical decisions are made in practice — from diagnosis through to treatment sequencing — with a focus on developing clarity and confidence when managing complex cases.

In a small-group setting, the session is structured to encourage open discussion, practical insight, and shared thinking among peers.

What to expect:

  • Case-based discussions grounded in real clinical scenarios
  • Practical frameworks for diagnosis and treatment sequencing
  • A collaborative environment to ask questions and explore clinical decision-making

This session is particularly relevant for recent graduates and early-career clinicians looking for guidance, structure, and a clearer approach to managing complexity in practice.

Attendance is limited to 8 participants to maintain an interactive and focused environment. Registration is required, and your place is confirmed upon receiving a confirmation email. Early registration is recommended.

Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Join us for an upcoming ITI Study Club evening with guest speaker Dr Hossam El-Haddad, alongside Dr Armand Putra, exploring the integration of implants with removable partial dentures in complex patient scenarios.

Treatment planning in partially dentate patients often involves far more than replacing missing teeth alone. Questions around biomechanics, support, maintenance, patient expectations, and long-term restorative outcomes can make decision-making significantly more complex — particularly in cases where fixed treatment may not always be the most appropriate solution.

Through case-based discussion and practical clinical insight, this session will explore how implants and removable prosthodontics can be combined thoughtfully to improve function, stability, and long-term predictability in selected patients.

Dr Hossam El-Haddad is a prosthodontist currently practicing across specialist clinics in Moonee Ponds and Melbourne CBD. He completed his Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics at the University of Melbourne and remains actively involved in academia as a lecturer and clinical supervisor within the dental school, where he also coordinates the implant component of the DDS program.

In partnership with Melbourne University and the International Team for Implantology (ITI), he contributes extensively to continuing professional development programs for general practitioners on prosthodontic and implant-related topics.

What to expect:
• Case-based discussions focused on partially dentate patients
• Practical considerations around biomechanics, maintenance, and treatment sequencing
• Discussion around case selection and long-term restorative outcomes
• A collaborative environment for open discussion and shared clinical insight

Time: 7:00pm

Venue: Mayfair Lane Pub & Dining Room 72 Outram St, West Perth

Attendance at the event will be confirmed only after registration through the link below and approval by the organiser.

Taking The Digital Bite

Taking the Digital Bite: Predictable Virtual Occlusion from Dentate to Edentulous Patients

Join us on April 22, 2026 for an exclusive ITI event exploring the topic “Taking the Digital Bite: Predictable Virtual Occlusion from Dentate to Edentulous Patients.” This session will focus on the accuracy and predictability of digital interocclusal records across a range of clinical scenarios, from fully dentate cases through to partially dentate and edentulous patients.

While digital bite registration can be highly accurate when stable anatomical references are present, it can also produce misleading results when such references are limited or absent. This session will provide a practical, chairside framework to help clinicians improve reliability by selecting repeatable capture strategies, recognising early warning signs of inaccurate registrations, and understanding when to introduce auxiliary references to enhance stability.

Through different clinical scenarios, the discussion will shift the focus from “digital versus conventional” workflows to a more clinically relevant approach: identifying available stable references and using them effectively to control jaw position and registration. Attendees will gain a structured decision-making framework to determine when a digital bite can be trusted, when it should be reinforced, and when verification is essential before proceeding to definitive prosthetic treatment.

This is a valuable opportunity to strengthen your understanding of digital workflows and improve the predictability of your outcomes across dentate, partially edentulous, and edentulous cases.

Date: 22nd April 2026 Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Where: Mayfair Lane, West Perth
Cost: FREE for ITI members, Free for non-ITI members (up to 2 events)
Implant Verification Jigs

Implant Verification Jigs – Necessity or Legacy Practice?

Join us on April 1st, 2026 for a study club session with Dr Aaron Wong, titled “Implant Verification – Necessity or Legacy Practice?” This will be Dr Wong’s first Study Club, focusing on implant misfit and the role of implant verification jigs in contemporary prosthodontic workflows. Implant misfit is rarely the result of a single error, but rather the accumulation of small inaccuracies throughout the workflow — from impressions or digital scans, to model fabrication, through to milling and processing — often only becoming evident at the stage of prosthesis insertion. This session will explore how implant verification jigs can be used as a practical risk-management step to identify and intercept these discrepancies before they result in costly remakes. Rather than asking whether verification should always be used, the discussion will focus on the more clinically relevant question: when does verification meaningfully reduce the risk of misfit, and when does it add limited value? Conventional, hybrid digital, and fully digital verification strategies will be presented within a clear decision-making framework, grounded in current scientific evidence, clinical consequences, and workflow uncertainty. Participants will gain practical guidance on when and how to incorporate implant verification into their clinical workflows to support more predictable and efficient outcomes. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own cases for discussion, creating an interactive and clinically relevant learning environment. This promises to be a valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding of implant workflows and refine your clinical decision-making—register now to secure your place. Date: 1 April 2026 Time: 6:00pm – 8:30pm Where: 17 Lyall St, South Perth, WA Cost: Free Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/study-club-with-aaron-wong-1st-april-tickets-1982409036794

My First Implant Series

Since the introduction of osseointegrated dental implants in the 1960’s, the scope of prosthodontic rehabilitation has dramatically changed. With high success rates being reported, dental implants have now become the standard of care for patients with a reduced dentition. Patient expectations and demand for long-term success can only be met with careful planning, meticulous surgical approach, precise prosthetic construction, implementation of maintenance recall, early identification and management of complications.
