Dental Crown & Bridge – Tooth Supported
For teeth that have been severely weakened due to dental decay, repeated fillings (restorations), tooth wear, traumatic fracture and short span of 1-2 missing teeth, dental crowns or bridgework may serve as a suitable treatment option. At Centre for Prosthodontics, we have a primary focus in reconstructive, aesthetic and implant dentistry, and can provide a range of dental solutions to suit your needs.

A dental crown is a high strength restoration made of either ceramic or porcelain, metal or their combination, to create full coverage restoration over a tooth. Dental crowns are made in the dental laboratory and bonded over the prepared tooth to restore its form, function and aesthetics.
Conventional Dental Bridgework
A conventional dental bridge is a high strength restoration made of either ceramic or porcelain, metal or their combination, used to bridge the gap left by one or more missing teeth. Made in the dental laboratory and used to replace a missing tooth or teeth with an artificial tooth (pontic), a dental bridge is connected to the adjacent prepared teeth via crown retainers.
Resin Bonded Bridge
Made in the dental laboratory, a resin bonded bridge is a high strength bridge that replaces one to two missing tooth (pontic) by connecting to the adjacent tooth / teeth via a bonded metal or ceramic wing retainer.
A resin bonded bridge is a much more conservative approach than the conventional dental bridge, with minimal tooth structure preparation, if any, on the adjacent tooth / teeth. Its limitation lies in the ability of the bonded interface to withstand the functional forces of eating and parafunctional forces of clenching and grinding. Our clinicians at Perth Prosthodontics will assess the integrity and surface area of the tooth / teeth adjacent to the missing tooth and analyse your bite (occlusion) to determine whether this treatment is suitable for you.
All procedures carry benefits and associated risks and complications. It is best for our clinicians at Centre for Prosthodontics to balance these factors and provide professional advice to help you make an informed decision on whether the procedure should proceed.
