leaders in
tooth supported Dental Crown and Bridgework.

While the end goal includes a beautiful smile, Dental Crown and Bridgework are more than just cosmetic procedures. Correctly done, they require extensive analysis and precise execution to ensure they integrate with your existing teeth structure and bite biomechanics to reduce the likelihood of creating new problems, wearing overly quickly or requiring additional maintenance. This is where the advanced training of our Prosthodontists will help ensure your Dental Crown or Bridgework is crafted to perfectly suit you, last as long as possible and, of course, look natural and absolutely amazing.

Things to consider when selecting your Clinician.

Preparation is a skill that prevents future complications.

While a Dental Crown or Bridgework is often presented as a straight-forward procedure, completing it to a standard that ensures maximum longevity, with minimum maintenance, requires thorough strength analysis of surrounding teeth and extremely detailed execution. It is only after this level of detailed planning that the treatment should be undertaken.

The quality of your materials have long term implications.

For both Dental Crown and Bridgework we partner with the best laboratories in Australia to create high strength Ceramic (Porcelain), metal, or composite restorations. Our Prosthodontists work in collaboration with these laboratories to ensure they are perfectly suited to your facial structure, and then carefully apply them using specially prepared dental resins.

Function is just as important as aesthetics.

While we always leave you with a beautiful looking smile, the key goal is to ensure the work completed remains functional for as long as possible, while requiring as little maintenance and future treatment as possible. This is where our advanced understanding of material science and facial biomechanics, mixed with the attention to detail that can only come from experience, stands us apart from other options.

Crowns and Bridgework explained.

Dental Crown

A Dental Crown is a high strength restoration made of either Ceramic (Porcelain), metal or a composite, to create a full cover for a severely damaged tooth. Dental Crowns of the absolute best strength and aesthetic qualities can only be made in a dental laboratory and must be bonded over carefully prepared tooth surfaces to restore its ideal form, function and appearance.

Conventional Dental Bridgework

A conventional Dental Bridge is a structure that ‘bridges’ the gap left by one or more missing teeth by replacing it with a false tooth (pontic). This pontic is attached to the surrounding teeth via crown retainers in the form of a Dental Bridge, which is bonded over their prepared tooth surfaces with high strength cement or adhesive resins. This strong bond also reinforces the surrounding teeth at the same time as fixing your gap. Dental Bridges are a fixed solution and can replace the need for traditional removable dentures.

Resin Bonded Bridgework

A resin bonded bridge is a high strength ‘bridge’ that replaces the gap left by one or two missing teeth with a false tooth (pontic), connected to the adjacent teeth via a bonded metal or ceramic wing retainer. This is a much more conservative approach than the conventional Dental Bridge, with minimal tooth structure preparation, if any, required on the adjacent teeth.

Frequently asked questions about Dental Crown and Bridgework

When would I choose a Crown over an implant?

This depends on a range of factors, particularly the level of damage to your teeth. Crown and Bridgework allow you to restore and keep your teeth without requiring their surgical removal and implant replacements. While it can be a simpler and cheaper solution than undertaking implant treatment, careful analysis and precise execution are essential for success. Your Prosthodontist will discuss your options with you before undertaking any treatments.

What is the difference between a Crown and Bridgework?

A Crown is a prosthetic cover used to strengthen a tooth that is severely damaged or has missing portions. A Bridge is a prosthetic structure that not only restores damaged teeth, but also bridges over gaps or replaces missing teeth.

How long do Crown and Bridgework last?

Despite using only the best techniques and highest quality materials, the longevity of your Crown or Bridgework depends in large part on how well you look after it. With good oral hygiene, control of bite forces (including use of an anti-clench/grinding splint if required) and regular dental checks your Crown or Bridgework can last for decades. As part of our service, we may discuss lifestyle changes that should be considered to increase the life of your treatment.

Do I need a Prosthodontist to complete my Crown or Bridgework?

While many general dentists offer simple Crown and Bridge treatment to their patients, there are complex situations when referral to Prosthodontists should be considered. Prosthodontists have undertaken a minimum of 3 years full-time specialist dental training in Crown and Bridgework, in addition to their general dentist qualification. With over 90 years of combined dental experience and specialised dental training from US, UK, Australia and South Africa, our team can provide simple to complex Crown and Bridgework and manage those with high aesthetic and functional needs and expectations. To the best of our ability, we will ensure the long term success of your Crown and Bridgework with as few future complications as possible.
