Complex Rehabilitation – Worn Dentition
Tooth wear with age is a normal physiological aging process. However, when superimposed with attrition (grinding) and erosion (acid dissolution), signs and symptoms such as tooth sensitivity, pulpal sensitivity, repeated tooth and filling (restoration) fractures, reduced tooth height and facial height collapse may present depending on the severity of the problem.
Most tooth wear cases tend to be highly complex due to the multiple number of teeth that are compromised in function and aesthetics / cosmetic appearance, therefore the clinical and technical expertise of a clinician with advanced prosthodontic training should be consulted. As part of the consultation process, it is crucial to identify the multifactorial cause behind tooth wear, such that a strategic approach can be taken to control and/or eliminate these factors for the long term stability of treatment results.
All procedures carry benefits and associated risks and complications. It is best for our clinicians at Centre for Prosthodontics to balance these factors and provide professional advice to help you make an informed decision on whether the procedure should proceed.
