Complications from Bali

Reconstructive Dentistry Perth - Centre for Prosthodontics Reconstructive Dentistry Perth - Centre for Prosthodontics
Patient:

49 year old, Female.

Concerns:
  • Recurrent bleeding gum and pain around implant crown – upper left canine.
  • Failed dental implant of unknown system and material – screw nail profile (before photo) which does not resemble a standard dental implant (after photo).
Diagnosis:
  • Cemented dental crown (unretrievable) on unknown dental implant system – has poor tooth size, shape and colour – mismatched to adjacent natural teeth
  • Suspected allergic / rejection reaction to unknown dental implant material (not biocompatible – i.e. not made of titanium alloy).
  • Surgical removal of failed dental implant – resulting in extensive gum and bone loss in the process
Management:
  • Extensive bone grafting required for repair of the implant site and placement of new standard dental implant by specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
  • Construction of new dental implant crown (screw retrievable) by specialist prosthodontist.
  • NOTE: – Due to extensive loss of gum and bone in the area from surgery required to remove the failed dental implant, difficulty was met to achieve ideal tooth size and contour.
